I have a real understanding of how frustrating an unbalanced, stiff or lame horse can be…

I am a fully qualified, fully insured Equine Massage Therapist with a lifelong love of horses and a lifetime of experience. My areas of expertise cover Equine sports, therapeutic and remedial massage and having owned and ridden horses throughout my life including competitive riding (the photo above is me and my once event mare, Lily), I have a real understanding of how frustrating an unbalanced, stiff or lame horse can be, and this is one of the reasons I decided to train as an equine therapist myself; I wanted to make a difference.

Massage is an ancient, long-established therapy that has been used in humans for centuries, but in more recent decades we have come to learn the benefits it can have for animals too, including horses. Consider the demands we put on our horses every day from standing in a stable for hours and eating from a haynet to wearing tack and travelling in a horsebox, not to mention carrying the extra weight of a rider whilst performing a range of activities and perhaps even jumping. None of these are things a horse in the wild would experience and so their anatomy was not designed with these environmental factors in mind. That said, on the whole, our equine friends cope extremely well with the pressures of domesticated life, however, regular massage treatment can help them cope even better and they will thank you for it, I assure you.

Stiffness and pain can become a way of life for many horses and usually, as a result of their kind nature, our trusty steeds carry on regardless, until that is, the pain really becomes too much which is when behavioural problems start to show themselves. All too often, however, these changes in behaviour can be overlooked as simply disobedience, which may not be the case.

Equine massage is a pleasurable experience for most horses and should not be seen only as a remedial therapy or something required only by the competition sports horse (all horses are athletes afterall, even happy hackers) and it can actually be highly beneficial to horses that are out of work, on box-rest or retired. Massage therapy really comes into its own when used in a proactive way to prevent injury or serious problems from occurring. Regular equine massage sessions are a valuable tool in your stable management portfolio and will help your horse to be more relaxed, supple, easier to ride and perform to their full potential.  So why not get in touch and book an appointment today?

A brief history of my life with horses

  • First pony experience

    Cracker-Jack

This is me with my first pony Cracker-Jack. Cracker was only 3 years old when I got him and I had just turned 12. Cracker taught me the art of “falling” with his very cheeky character and super smart bucks!

  • Ponyclub SJ qualifier

    Tammy

Tammy was my first introduction to horses and she taught me a lot. The above photo is us at a PC open SJ qualifier - the biggest jumps I had ever attempted at 3’6”, but Tammy looked after me & we sailed through to the finals.

  • Zing

ZIng took me to a whole new level; she was exactly as her name suggests, full of energy and a total fruit loop. So brave and honest, we had the most amazing experiences together & she even gave me the gift of Lily.

  • Experience with young horses

    Lily

Lily was Zing’s foal who I first met at 6 months of age. Here she is age 5 tackling her first ever HT. Talent was this girl’s middle name but sadly she was plagued by a back injury. However, thanks to regular equine therapy, we did go on to Event successfully, which inspired me to follow this career myself.
